metal shelves, objects from museum collection and works of Nikita Kadan from different years, plants

The installation is a construction of archival shelves uniting the objects from the National Museum of the History of Ukraine collection with the works of the artist. The pieces from the collection reference the Soviet history of the current conflict zones: Crimea and Donbass regions. These objects, once infested with state ideology, have now escaped from any ideological narration. The objects have lost their fixed positions and conventional characteristics of “friend” or “enemy”, and they start to produce doubts regarding any type of historical narration. Works of art located between the pieces from the Museum work to set up a new logic of historical narration beyond the control of any state-approved politics of memory. Vegetation as an object of care testifies to the institution's choice in favor of the possibility of such a narrative within the museum walls. Material objects, possessed by the spirits of history, escape from their predetermined significance, place and time, giving an unbiased testimony. The parrhesia of things and “history-with-which-you-cannot-come-to-an-agreement” meet in the museum, once it begins to doubt its function in the service of ideology.
